MAHTOMEDI, MINN.—Several Journeymen called it their personal highlight of 2024.
Invited for the first time ever to sing at the ACDA of Minnesota’s 2024 Conference, The Journeymen Chorus had the honor of performing its brand of high fidelity barbershop in front of some of the state’s best and brightest choral music educators.
Held in St. Andrews Lutheran Church, The Journeymen’s performance happened on an otherwise sleepy Saturday morning in late November. But if anyone in the audience wasn’t quite awake before The Journeymen hit the stage, the certainly were during and afterward, as the chorus’s lights out performance received immediate standing ovations after half of the six songs in their set.
The core memories unlocked, for audience members and Journeymen alike, were numerous.
“Mountaintop moment with The Journeymen Chorus at the ACDA of Minnesota fall convention!” Journeymen Director Scott Perau wrote.
“Singing with these guys was definitely a 2024 highlight for me!” Journeymen Thomas Mondry wrote.
“One of the highlights of 2024 for me was the opportunity to perform with The Journeymen at (ACDA of Minnesota) convention,” Journeymen Brent Buresh said.
“So proud to be a part of this group and the response from the ACDA attendees was fantastic!” Journeymen Jay Althof said.
An initial video release of one of the chorus’s songs—“You Can Fly,” arranged by Clay Hine—produced nearly 10,000 views and several dozen positive comments and reactions.
“That was wonderful!” wrote one Journeymen fan on the chorus’s social media. “I loved the movement of the group as you sang.”
Another wrote: “AWESOME! Great diction, dynamics, energy and enthusiasm! LOVED IT!”
And still another: “What a joy for us to hear you!”
While being invited to perform alone stands as a huge feather in the chorus’s cap, the anticipation of future collaborations that will no doubt result from the performance
