Tenor/Bass Ensemble

UW - River Falls

The UW-River Falls Tenor/Bass Ensemble is one of five choral ensembles at UW-River Falls. Reinstated in the Spring of 2023, this group works to foster strong community, excellent musicianship, and a broad understanding of choral repertoire. The musicians in this ensemble work on skills in ensemble music-making including vocal pedagogy, blending, listening, music literacy, and performing. Students perform repertoire from many different places, eras, and cultures throughout the year. As a musical leader in its community, Tenor/Bass Ensemble strives to enrich the lives of its members and surroundings by creating and sharing meaningful music.

The Singing Statesmen

UW - Eau Claire

The Singing Statesmen from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire celebrate their 59th season in 2024-25 as one of the premier tenor-bass university choruses in the United States. This auditioned choir represents diverse academic disciplines with a common respect and admiration for choral music. The creed upheld by the membership is "Pride and Sensitivity," words which inhabit their singing and the way they carry themselves on and off the stage. The Singing Statesmen are proud of their tradition of performing choral music representing repertoire from the Renaissance through the present.

The ensemble was established in 1966 by Morris D. Hayes, who sought to create an outstanding choral ensemble for male voices. The ensemble has been directed by five conductors: Morris D. Hayes from 1966 to 1987; Bruce G. McInnes from 1988 to 1990; Gary R. Schwartzhoff from 1991 to 2016; Elizabeth Joosten from 2016 to 2019; and Christopher G. McGinley from 2019 to the present. The Singing Statesmen is one of six choral ensembles on the UW-Eau Claire campus recognized as "Wisconsin's Singing University."

The Journeymen Chorus

The Journeymen Chorus was established in the post-COVID world of Summer 2022, when our founding director Scott Perau began meeting with a group of his close friends and fellow barbershop singers who, at the time, were not doing a whole lot of organized singing. The idea was to bring together some of the most accomplished barbershop singers in the Upper Midwest, guys who could not only sing and perform at a high level, but also would have a boatload of fun together before, during, and after each gathering. The resulting ensemble counts among its members more than a dozen Land O’Lakes District Barbershop Quartet champions, several experienced music educators, and singers who hail from three different states!
